Eyelash loss – remedies
Eyelash loss may be a result of serious illnesses or improper care. Eyelashes, like hair, fall out everyday and this is a completely natural process. Every day you lose 2-3 eyelashes, but if you notice that they literally spill out of your eyes, be sure to contact your doctor. Before you get to know how to regenerate your eyelashes, find out why they actually fall out.
Why do eyelashes fall out?
Excessive eyelash loss can have various causes. The most common are:
- allergy to cosmetics or contact lenses,
- improper use of cosmetics, for example too intensive eye make-up removal,
- use of some medicines and treatments, for example chemotherapy,
- thyroid insufficiency,
- eye diseases,
- infections and inflammations of the eyelids and hair follicles,
- the effect of free radicals (cigarettes or environmental pollution),
- demodex,
- a diet low in vitamins,
- hormonal imbalance, for example during menopause,
- cosmetic treatments, including eyelash extensions or improper use of eyelash curler,
- eye surgery,
- sleeping in make-up, which causes eyelash crumbling,
- adverse weather conditions, such as frost, sun, wind or rapid temperature changes.
Eyelash loss – remedies
Castor oil
Castor oil is an old and effective way to strengthen lashes by moisturising them. Every evening after careful make-up removal, apply castor oil on your eyelashes. For this purpose, you can use a special eyelash brush or use a clean brush from your old mascara; just wash it thoroughly with soap and water and then dry it.
Eyelash and eyebrow serums
The products that stimulate the growth and regeneration of eyelashes, have a gel consistency and are easily applied. They are recommended for people who extend eyelashes in the salon, use an eyelash curler or have undergone chemotherapy. Good eyelash conditioners should contain cucumber, pomegranate or pumpkin seeds extracts, green tea as well as vitamins A and B12.
You can also use a colourless and odourless moisturising lipstick for everyday eyelash care.
