Beautiful, long lashes. What is eyelash extension and how it is done?
Eyelash extension is a perfect way to enhance the length and thickness of natural eyelashes. At the same time, it is an alternative to everyday application of mascara or eyelash strips. What is the eyelash extension, which methods are used and how much it costs? How long does it take to apply lash extensions? How does it look and how we should take care of them? What are the contraindications to consider?
What is eyelash extension?
Eyelash extension is a procedure that involves attaching one false lash onto each of our own natural lashes. This process is much more complicated than the application of individual eyelashes or eyelash strips which can be easily used at home. Why, then, eyelash extension is a more complicated process? It requires caution, practice, and the highest hygienic standards as the lashes are applied directly at the eyelids that protect our delicate eyes. For this reason eyelash extensions can only be performed by a trained professional.
To reduce the risk of irritation and allergic reaction to glue, the false lashes are attached approximately 1 millimeter from your lash line.
Eyelash extension – methods
The most popular methods are 1 to 1 (1: 1), 2 to 1 (2: 1) and 3 to 1 (3: 1). You can also have 4 to 1 (4: 1) and even 10 to 1 (10: 1). All of the above are based on the same technique – attaching one false lash onto a natural one.
Each method provides similar durability, the difference lies in the final effect. Generally, the method is chosen by the client, but the beautician can suggest different solution having analysed general condition of natural eyelashes. This is essential as eyelash extension not only thickens and lengthens natural eyelashes, but also can visually enlarge the eyes.
- 1:1 method is the one most commonly chosen as it gives the most natural effect at the same time being the least expensive. It involves gluing one false eyelash on one natural eyelash.
- 2:1 method, in which two lashes are glued to a single natural eyelash. In this way, the eyelashes are thicker and more expressive.
- 3:1 method, in which three lashes are glued to one natural eyelash. It results in a more spectacular effect.
- 4:1 and 10:1 methods differs from the above in the number of false lashes used.
Method 1:1 involves using synthetic, silk or natural hair from Siberian minks. In other methods only natural hair is used as it is the lightest hence less weighting to the eyelashes.
How long does it take to extend eyelashes?
Eyelash extension is a procedure that requires patience – both from the beautician and the client. Depending on the condition and density of natural eyelashes as well as the chosen method and the experience of a beautician, the treatment lasts from two to three hours. During the application, the client needs to lie still with her eyes closed.
Eyelash extension – effects
The effect should be visible for 3-4 weeks. It is determined by the general condition of natural eyelashes and the care applied. Natural eyelashes fall out and are replaced by the new ones, that is why fills should be done on a regular basis, at least once a month.
Eyelash extension is a durable method for beautiful eyes. When the application is correctly done, your eyelashes can easily withstand:
- intense effort,
- sweating,
- swimming in the pool or in the sea,
- sauna,
- makeup and its removal, with the exception of waterproof mascara. High durability of waterproof mascara makes it difficult to remove without causing damage to natural eyelashes.
Eyelash extension – for whom?
This is a perfect solution for those who would like to thicken and extend their natural eyelashes. Regardless of the chosen method, the effect is easily noticeable and long-lasting. The eyelash extension is highly popular among active women or those who want to save some time in the morning (eye makeup) and in the evening (makeup removal).
Eyelash extension – contraindications
Sensitive eyes, diseases, eye irritations and allergy symptoms near the eyes are general contraindications.
How to take care of extended eyelashes?
Extending eyelashes will not damage your natural eyelashes if they are properly treated. False eyelashes should be treated as natural – they require cleaning. It is best to use a delicate soap, gel or micellar water for this purpose.
Eyelash extension – cost
The application of false lashes is very time-consuming. Due to this fact, this beauty treatment can be fairly expensive. The cost depends on many factors, such as the location of the beauty salon, the experience of a beautician and the methods and materials used. Synthetic lashes cost less than the mink fur one. In general, the application of synthetic lashes in 1:1 method costs less than the usage of natural ones in the 3:1 method.
