Eyelashes make-up – tricks and tips

How to apply mascara to make your eyelashes long?

To achieve the effect of long eyelashes, you can apply the method known and appreciated by all make-up artists: before applying the mascara, reach for a primer (i.e. colourless, or white mascara), which will build on small hairs, creating a perfectly prepared “base” for mascara. Thanks to this, lashes gain not only on length, but also on volume. Primer should be chosen with care and attention, because it should not stick the eyelashes together or unevenly settle on them – then we get the effect of ‘spider legs’, that is, firmly glued and thinned eyelashes.

A very good alternative to the primer is … loose powder. Before you start with mascara – gently powder your eyelashes (remember to close the eye so that the cosmetic does not get into the conjunctiva and cause discomfort). This way your eyelashes become longer and thicker, the mascara applied after that will enhance this result.

How to apply mascara without making the lashes clumpy?

The eyelashes may stick together when the mascara has inadequate consistency and the bristles are widely-spaced. Unfortunately, tightly-spaced bristles can also give this kind of effect. In order to prevent small eyelashes from sticking together, it is important that the brush has dense and flexible hairs so that it can precisely separate the eyelashes. You might also use a special brush to comb the eyelashes – it should be used immediately after applying mascara when it has not dried yet.

How to apply mascara on your bottom lashes?

Small hairs on the lower eyelid often cause trouble – they grow close to the skin and rarely ever can a brush accurately cover them without making a mess. In order to apply mascara properly, you can use the make-up artists’ trick: set the brush upright and cover the eyelashes with the top of the brush. Also, you can use a special under eye pads (it can be bought at the drugstore or made by yourself with a cardboard or a piece of plastic). Place it between he lower eyelid and eyelashes – then you can safely and quickly apply mascara as the smudges will remain on the cardboard.

Bloggers and vloggers use one more trick: instead of using the above-mentioned separator, they simply take a teaspoon. They put it under the eyelashes and apply mascara freely. The teaspoon protects the skin.

A good method for eyelash make-up is the so-called zigzag – that is, putting the eyelashes on a brush (hold it horizontally) and making delicate movements to the right and left – upwards (in the case of upper lashes) or downwards (in the case of the lower eyelashes). The lashes are evenly coated and the eyelid is clean.

How to choose the best mascara brush?

Before you even start thinking about it, remember that even the best brush will not give the desired effects if you do not regularly wash it. It is enough to once every two weeks wash it in warm water with the addition of a gentle liquid (best if it is hypoallergenic and odourless). Thanks to this, you will get rid of dried clumps from between the bristles. A clean and fresh brush guarantees precise make-up.

In general, the best mascara brushes are the silicone ones – the nylon (or hairy) quickly deform and do not separate the eyelashes well. The spacing of the bristles should be small – so that the eyelashes do not stick together, hence we can obtain different effects, from a delicate, daytime make-up, to a stronger, evening look.
